I twas but as fictional as

Any other from my birth

Who acquiesced to my life

In what little I deciphered

Till finding my true nature

Hidden deep within myself

Raw, vulnerable, and naive

Same way we’re all created

Emotional and intellectual

Uncouth and soulfully naked

Unknown and undamaged

Only to be bent and broken

We’re dammed and innocent

We are faithful… and forgiven

Living for the observed sake

Of being an active resistance

Is not at all life as intended

Far too often we’re complicit

In all the creation of illusions

Mesmerizing our full attention

From birth- we are set forth

Upon our perilous pathway

To discover our true inner self

We will be broken and scarred

Our hearts and beliefs, shattered

And some of us will surrender

I have my sacred mission instilled

I am duty-bound to its… fulfillment

Did I look like a scarecrow

Whispers and wishes like cobwebs in my head

Who would’ve known, until it was far too late

After letting down my walls

After letting you get too close

Somehow, I know I should’ve known

I should’ve recognized the shadow

Standing on my own- darkness

I trusted, everything once again

Like the fool, I’ve always been

Whenever it came- to finding love

But finding I can still get broken

Who could’ve known

You had a hybrid heart… of deception

Storm chasers

I’ve tip-toed across the stars

Universes away from here

Chasing after- the one love

That’s still eluding my heart

The way children often do

A way of the sun and moon

I live off hopes of my dreams

That are instilled within me

The same fashion as raindrops

Reside inside traces of clouds

And one day that love and I

Will mix like torrents of fire

To explode into a new galaxy

Of epic tranquility…as one

A river was born to traverse

Slink its way past obstacles

Even change directions often

Appear to move backwards

Yet, it still innately flowed

And in every single inch forth

It evolved, deeper or swifter

Grew thinner and or broader

Serving a purpose beyond self

Others enjoyed its full presence

Mostly for what it has to give

But now and then- some come

Damning its existence; to halt it

Preferring it to end up as…a lake

Crumbs or promises

Upon the yellow brick road

Laced in cracks and shadows

Many will fall and get lost

Be tramped upon old imprints

Of tired dreams and beliefs

Its shine will become blurred

In tones of crimson and tears

Lines are crossed or stopped

As silent prayers get drown

Into the petrichor air of earth

Yellow is far more than color

It’s also a very eager blindness

That deceives earnest believers

Into silly thinking… they be, God

I’ve accepted as I learned

Over my anguished time

How to recognize this- me

This wreckage I’ve become

Familiarity with forced change

I sought not- as some trade-off

Of my once beloved dreams

And all those dreams remain

Hidden inside safely buried deep

So when I feel broken, or alone

I visit and fully embrace them

To remind each one- individually

They’ll never be forgotten by me

They’re my sanctuary… my peace

‘Poetry Partners’ update — The skeptic’s kaddish

Just over one month ago, I launched a poetry sharing initiative here at the Skeptic’s Kaddish, called ‘Poetry Partners’. Since then, I’ve been grateful to get many poetry submissions, and more continue to come in.
