Fall of Summer (triple sonnet)

You came into my life

Swept me over unexpected

Like ocean waves, we swam in

Laid on the beaches happy

Love blossomed well

Locked inside each other’s arms

I could believe what I was living

And it all felt so fantastic

Oh! You owned my heart girl

And tethered my very soul

The sun rose every morn in your eyes

And fell at night in your whispers

Oh! Summer, you became all my seasons

Until the eclipse of him… came along

.

Feeling too close we pulled apart

Struggle to breathe anything familiar

Till we lost each other’s names

Whenever we complained- out loud

Never thought we go that far

Become something else

Something outside ourselves

Oh! but the winds changed

Followed by frosty morns

And single cold nights

Then the rains became snow

And our hearts just froze

Our love shattered like ice

And we finally said… goodbye

.

If only I had known

How much you really meant

I might’ve loved you deeper some way

Somehow understood this pain

Maybe cried out love’s forgiveness

Now, I’m left here by myself

And still trying to find some semblance

Of a broken fool’s long-lost hope

Yea, I’m still crawling back to me

Too weak- to stand tall again

I heard you even married him

Just before you up and let him go

Oh! I know exactly how he feels

And I’d help him… if only I could

  2. Sometimes we don’t know what we have till it’s gone. When we’re in the moment we let go of someone because we don’t think we can make it work but when we look back we realise we should have tried harder to make it work. Really loved this one.
