Personally…. I’d much rather be WANTED than needed. To be the object of desire. Rather than an obligation if need. Just… well, just my two cents.

Rarely do we ever want what we really…need. Thus is the reason it is worded as it is but I understand your point well. We need water but might desire beer. One is of preferred taste while the other is of survival.
